x² + 2x = 13
x² + 2x + 1 = 13 + 1
x² + x + x + 1 = 14
x(x) + x(1) + 1(x) + 1(1) = 14
x(x + 1) + 1(x + 1) = 14
(x + 1)(x + 1) = 14
(x + 1)² = 14
x + 1 = ±√14
x = -1 ± √14
