The system of equations:
2 y = - x - 1
2 y = x + 5
---------------------
- x - 1 = x + 5
- 2 x = 5 + 1
- 2 x = 6
x = - 6 : 2
x = - 3
2 y = - 3 + 5
2 y = 2
y = 1
The solution is ( - 3 , 1 ).
Answer: The x-coordinate of the solution to the system is: x = - 3.
