Answer: B. existed before other cultures were present in the region.

The Swahili Coast is a region in Southeast Africa inhabited by the Swahili people. It includes the coast of Kenya, Tanzania, and northern Mozambique, as well as Zanzibar, Pate and Comoros. The Swahili people originated from Bantu inhabitants at the outset of the first millennium. The Swahili people engaged in long-distance trade in the Indian Ocean from the 5th century up to the 11th century. Modern Swahili speak the Swahili language as mother tongue, a member of the Bantu subgroup of the Niger-Congo family.
