A hyena can run one over four of a mile in 22.5 seconds. At this rate, which equation can be used to determine how fast a hyena runs in miles per hour?

(1/4) / 22.5 = x/3600
22.5x = 3600/4
22.5x = 900
x = 900/22.5
x = 40 miles per hr

Answer:

The hyena runs 40 miles per hour.

Explanation:

We know that the hyena runs a distance of

d=(1)/(4) mi

In a period of time of

t=22.5sec

However, the problem is asking for a speed in hours. We have to transform from 22.5 seconds to hours

t=22.5sec(1hr)/(3600sec)=0.00625hr

Now, the relation of the movement is

d=st ; Where
d is the distance covered,
t the times the hyena took to covered that distance and
s the speed.

This is the equation we can used to find how fast the hyena runs.

Now, using given values and solving for
s

d=st\\s=(d)/(t)\\ \\s=((1)/(4)mi)/(0.00625hr)\\\\s=(1)/(0.025)mi/hr=40 mi/hr

Therefore, the hyena runs 40 miles per hour.
