Who suffered the most due to the lack of unity in the Federal government during the years of Reconstruction?

My answer: all people

  • I suppose some might say Northerners suffered most because so much attention was focused on the South and on Reconstruction. It's possible that's what your lesson says. But I would argue that all people suffered from the failures of Reconstruction, because it allowed entrenched systems of racism to persist, which continue to cause problems in the country even to this day.

Those who suffered the most were notherners and freedmen and freedwomen. They suffered most because after the war during reconstruction everyone started focusing only on south because of all the wealth that it could bring and nobody cared anymore about the people from the north, what was important was to remove traces of confederacy from the south.
