If they don't they could die when they are trying to put out a fire. For example, if a building is on fire, they will need clean oxygen to breath through all of the flames and fumes.

because the fire uses the oxygen to burn with out oxygen the fire cant even start so thats why there is very little oxygen when fire starts that and also there is lots of ash and smoke in the air which would then be contaminated
