Why do cells use fat and starch for long-term energy storage instead of ATP molecules?

ATP is a form of energy releasing molecules that are used for several rapid processes in the body, such as vesicular trafficking and cellular communication. Starches and fats have long chains of carbon bonds that take the body a while to metabolize and release as a slow form of energy.
