y = -7x + 19 ---› Eqn. 2

Substitute y = (-7x + 19) into Eqn. 1.

Thus:

3x + 2(-7x + 19) = 16

3x - 14x + 38 = 16

- 11x + 38 = 16

-11x = 16 - 38

-11x = -22

Divide both sides by -11

x = 2

Substitute x = 2 into eqn. 2.

Thus:

y = -7(2) + 19

y = -14 + 19

y = 5
