f(x) is ur dependent variable....x is ur independent varible
f(x) = -3x^2 + 5x...when x = -4
f(x) = -3(-4^2) + 5(-4)
f(x) = -3(16) - 20
f(x) = -48 - 20
f(x) = - 68...so ur dependent variable is -68 when ur independent variable is -4
