A bag contains 9 red chips, 7 blue chips, and 8 green chips.

So then our sample space size is:


S=9+7+8=24

We also know that. Bobby selects two chipsfrom the bag without replacement. What is the probability that he selects 2 red chips?

Solution

We can use the definition of probability givne by:


p=(possible)/(total)

The possible cases are given by 9C2 since we have a total of 9 red chips and we want to select just 2 and the total possibilites are 24C2 replacing we got:


p=(9C2)/(24C2)=(36)/(276)=(3)/(23)

And if we convert this into % we got:


(3)/(23)\cdot100=13.04

And rounded would be about 13.0%
