Considering this excerpt written by the Arab geographer Yakut in the 13th century, what can we say about Islamic Baghdad at that time?

I believe the answer is: It tolerated a diverse population.

This attitude is what make Baghdad became a really popular trading centre for people at 13th century. Many traders from different continents come to trade their products, culture, and knowledge with the people of middle east, and they all could find a way to live together regardless of their difference.
