Two metal blocks that have slightly different temperatures are placed next to one another. After five minutes, they both have lower but equal temperatures. According to the law of conservation of energy, what most likely happened?

Two metal blocks that have slightly different temperatures are placed next to one another. After five minutes, they both have lower but equal temperatures. This happens because they should be able to attain thermal equilibrium with each other and with the environment.

The temperatures of the blocks were both above room temperature so the blocks 'gave' their heat energy to the room until all three things were the same temperature.
