When the Nubian civilization lost control of ancient Egypt and moved south to Meroë, the Nubians retained many Egyptian cultural influences in the areas of art and architecture. They stopped using Egyptian hieroglyphics, however, and developed their own alphabet script for the Meroitic language instead. How does this compare to what happened when the Bantu peoples moved south of the equator?

A. It is the same: The Bantu peoples retained many shared cultural influences but developed distinctive languages.
B. It is the same: The Bantu peoples stopped using hieroglyphics in favor of their own family of languages.
C. It is different: The Bantu peoples developed distinctive cultures yet maintained a similar language.
D. It is different: The Bantu peoples abandoned Egyptian cultural influences but continued using hieroglyphics.

The correct answer is C) It is different: The Bantu peoples developed distinctive cultures yet maintained a similar language.

Compared to what happened when the Bantu people moved south of the equator, this is different, the Bantu peoples developed distinctive cultures yet maintained a similar language.

The Bantu people spread through migrations from West and Central Africa, to many other places, including south the equator. This expansion made them arrive in territories such as Lesotho, Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, and Malawi. The linguistic evidence proved that the Bantu people were in those regions.
