y = -1/2x + 4 . . . . . . . . (1)
x + 2y = -8 . . . . . . . . (2)
putting (1) into (2), we have
x + 2(-1/2x + 4) = -8
x - x + 8 = -8
8 = -8
Therefore, the system has no solution.
