8/40 = x/10
cross multiply
(40)(x) = (8)(10)
40x = 80
x = 2
It would take them 2 hrs to plant the last 10 trees

or

40/8 = 5 trees per hr...so 10 trees could be planted in 2 hrs

Answer: 2 hours

Explanation:

Given: The total number of trees need to plant = 50

In 8 hours , the number of trees planted = 40

The rate of trees planted is given by :-

r=\frac{\text{number of trees}}{\text{hours}}\\\Rightarrow\ r=(40)/(8)=5

Hence, they are planting 5 trees in one hour.

So if they planted 40 trees, the remaining trees=50-40=10

The number of hours taken by crew to plant them =
(10)/(5)=2\ hours

The total time taken by the crew to complete the work =8+2=10 hours
