The division between drawing and painting blurs even in the West when artists use washes—diluted ink applied with a brush to add tonal values to a drawing. Rembrandt was particularly adept at this technique. In A Sleeping Woman (4-10), he is able to convey her pose with a few confident and dramatic strokes of his brush. But the depth of the scene is created with layers of ink wash that he added behind her head at the top left.

The correct answer is Ink and water
