The slope of the line given 2 points is calculated by the equation,
m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
where m is the slope, x's and y's are the abscissas and ordinates of the points. Substituting the known values,
m = (4 - -1) / (-7 -8) = -1/3
Therefore, the answer is letter C. -1/3.
