Why did the united states abandon its position of strict neutrality during the late-1930s?

I think it was because from the combination of Hitler gaining power and joining sides with Japan in which Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor sparking a huge outcome of the US declaring war with both Germany and Japan (Mainly the axis powers).
