add the equations cause u have the same # in front of the x

you cancel out the x giving you 2y=6

figure out the one step equation (divide 6 by 2 giving you 3)

plug 3 back in for the y in the 1st or second equation

2x + 3 = 5 - solve equation

subtract 3 from both sides giving you 2x = 2

solve by dividing 2 from both sides to get x by itself

now you get x = 1
