Problem

Hank had 4 1/2 pounds of fish. He needed to split it up equally into 34 pound portions for his friends. How many friends will he be able to share it with?

Solution

For this case we can do the following:

4(1)/(2)=(4\cdot2+1)/(2)=(9)/(2)

and we can divide this number by 34 and we got:

(9)/(2)\cdot(1)/(34)=(9)/(68)

So then to each friend correspond 9/68 pounds of fish
