Answer:

Alcohol damages areas of the brain responsible for learning and memory, verbal skills and visual-spatial cognition. Diagnosticians often find that these skills in adolescents who drink are deficient in comparison to those who aren't drinking.

To help a student overcome a problem with alcohol, I would suggest the following: talking to a school counselor or trusted adult, calling the local or national drug and alcohol hotline, checking into an alcohol treatment center, or attending an alcohol treatment group, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

The effects that alcoholism has on school performance could be forgetting to submit homework, showing up late or not at all to school, and losing of friends/girlfriend/boyfriend. That person can overcome their alcohol problem by trying something else to do for fun or to relieve their stress. They can also solve the problem that they are in that is making them drink alcohol.
