(1/2)x² - (5/4)x - 3 = 0
0.5x² - 1.25x - 3 = 0
Comparing to the quadratic function, ax² + bx + c = 0,
a = 0.5, b = -1.2, c = -3.
Sum of roots = -b/a = -(-1.25)/0.5 = 1.25/0.5 = 2.5
2.5 = 5/2 Option (a)
