I plant a line of bamboo plants for a fence on my property line. I buy the plants when they are 10 inches tall, and the plants grow 3 inches a day. I am interested in how tall the plants will be after 10 days, and how long it will take them to grow to their full height of 70 inches. 12) Find an equation to model the situation given, using H for the height of the plants and t for time in days since I bought them.

I am interested in how tall the plants will be after 10 days, and how long it will take them to grow to their full height of 70 inches. 12) Find an equation to model the situation given, using H for the height of the plants and t for time in days since I bought them.

we have

H -----> height of the plants

t ------> time in days since I bought them

we know that

the equation of a line in slope intercept form is given by

H=mt+b

where

m is the slope or unit rate

b is the y-intercept or initial value

in this problem we have that

m=3 in/day

b=10 in

substitute

H=3t+10

so

For t=10 days

substitute

H=3(10)+10

H=40 in

when H=70 in

substitute

70=3t+10

solve for t

3t=70-10

3t=60

t=20 days

m
