You build one raised garden box that is 12 feet by 6 feet and 10 inches tall.  The supply store sells garden soil in cubic yards.

- How many cubic yards of soil will you need to fill the boxes?  You may disregard the thickness of the wood.

-If soil is priced at $5 per cubic yard, how much will it cost to fill your boxes?

6 ft = 2 yds 12 ft = 4 yds 10inches = 10/12 = 5/6 of a foot = 5/6 divided by 3 = 5/18 of a yd Total volume in yards = 2 x 4 x 5/18 = 2.22 cubic yards Total cost = $5.00 x 2.22 = $11.10

Answer:

  1. 2.24\ yard^3

  2. \$11.2

Explanation:

We know that

1\text{ Feet}=0.33\text{ Yard}

1\text{ Inch}=0.028\text{ Yard}

You built one raised garden box that is 12 feet by 6 feet and 10 inches tall.

or you built one raised garden box that is 4 yards by 2 yards and 0.28 yard tall.

Then the volume of the box is,

=4* 2* 0.28=2.24\ yard^3

Soil is priced at $5 per cubic yard, so the total cost will be,

=2.24* 5=\$11.2
