An escalator has a length of 225 ft. In a rush, Dominik walks up the escalator at 106 ft/min while the escalator is moving up at 82 ft/min. How long will it take him to reach the top of the escalator?

The total distance that Dominik will have to walk is the sum of the length of the escalator and the distance that the escalator has traveled. Let t be the time it will take him to reach the top of the escalator. The equation that best models the situation is,
225 ft + (82 ft/min) x t = (106 ft/min) x t
The value of t is 9.375 minutes.
