Answer:

Explanation:

5¾ + (-¼)

Turn the mixed number to an improper fraction.

5¾ + (-¼) = 23/4 - ¼ = (23-1)/4 = 22/4 = 11/2 = 5½

:::::

-⅔ + ⅙

Give the fractions a common denominator. The least common multiple of 3 and 6 is 6.

-⅔ + ⅙ = -4/6 + 1/6 = -3/6 = - ½

:::::

-8/5 + (-¾)

Give the fractions a common denominator. The least common multiple of 5 and 4 is 20.

-8/5 + (-¾) = -32/20 - ¾ = -32/20 - 15/20 = -47/20
