While using a bunsen burner, never direct the flame to your face or any other personnel. Do not try to light things on fire and play with them, because it can always go wrong and something else can catch on fire, like gasoline. Wear a laboratory coat and safety goggles if provided by the instructor. I would not recommend using gloves because if you hover your hand over the flame, the glove is going to melt on to your hand. If you are working with chemicals, I highly recommend gloves but use they carefully, as sign of excessive heat will make the gloves melt on to your hand and cause serious burns. If you have a laboratory coat or an apron, and something catches on fire, put your lab coat or apron on the fire to put it out. Hope this helps! :)
