Olivia has $256 to buy presents for her 3 sisters and 2 nephews. She wants to spend $10 more on each sister than she spends on each nephew. Let S= the amount she spends on each sister, and N= the amount she spends on each nephew. How much (in dollars) she spend on each sister?

250$÷5=50
each people 50
3 sister = 150
2 nephews = 100
spend 10$ to each sister
100$N - 30$spend =70$N
3S= (150$ + 30$ )
= 180$÷3
=60$
2N=70$÷3 =23.33$

Answer:$57

Explanation:

3s+2n=256

s=n+10

rewrite the second equation as s-n=10 and multiply it by 2. Then add the equations to solve for s.

3s+2n=256

2(s-n)=10*2

3s+2n=256

+

2(s-2n)=20

5s+0=276

s=57
