Words that have multiple meanings are known as polysemous (‘poly’ meaning ‘many’ and ‘semous’ meaning ‘meaning’). An example is ‘bank’, which can mean a financial institution or a part of a river. Words that share a spelling but have different meanings are called homonyms.
