Why does the the body needs the use of fermentation instead of just cellular respiration?

When oxygen is not available or is not efficient for normal respiration which uses O2 (aerobic respiration), the organism turns to mode of anaerobic respiration/fermentation that does not require O2 and is less efficient to provide energy to the organism but it still produces. That is GLUCOSE [no oxygen] —> ATP + lactic acid
