Many employees have good attendance records. Shelly is an employee. Assuming these two statements are true does Shelly have a good attendance record?

No we can not assume that. Although Shelly is an employee the phrase says "many employees have good attendance records" so we can't assume Shelly has one. However, if it said all employees have good attendance records then we could.
