Determine whether the pair of lines is parallel, perpendicular, or neither. X-6y = - 1 y = 7x-1

First we clear y form the first function:


x-6y=-1
y=(1)/(6)x+(1)/(6)

Now we can compare with the other equation:


y=7x-1

We can see that the lines are not parallel. To be parallel they sould have the same slope.

Then, to check if they are perpendicular we also check the slope. One has to be the opposite reciprocal of the other (if one slope is m, the other has to be 1/m)

We can see that this is not the case, so the lines are not perpendicular.

Therefore, the lines are neither parallel nor perpendicular.
