In the diagram, 2004-05-02-04-00_files/i0200000.jpg 2004-05-02-04-00_files/i0200001.jpg 2004-05-02-04-00_files/i0200002.jpg, AG = 6, DG = 3, and CD = 10. If BG = 8 and EG = 4, calculate the area of ABCDE.

We will use the Pythagorean theorem:
AB² = 8² + 6² = 64 + 36 = 100, AB = 10
AE² = 6² + 4² = 36 + 16 = 52, AE = 2√13
ED² = 4² + 3² = 16 + 9 = 25, ED = 5
DF = 10 - 5 = 5
FC² = 10² - 5² = 100 - 25 = 75, FC = 5√3
Area of ABCDE:
10 · 2√13 + 5 · 5√3/2 = 20√13 + 25√ 3/2 = ( or if you need more accurate solution ) = 20 · 3.606 + 25 · 1.732 /2 =
= 73.2 + 21.65 = 94.85
