ATP is created from combination of ADP plus the addition of an inorganic phosphate. This reaction is fueled through the process of releasing chemical energy. For ADP to form ATP, energy is required in the process. In other words, energy acts as a catalyst in the reaction since energy is required to bind the inorganic phosphate to ADP.
