Mr. Utterson sometimes seems to appear envious of those who don’t follow the rules

The line “sometimes wondering, almost with envy” from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is used for the author to show Utterson’s interest in people with dark and deep secrets and even more, sometimes he wonders about the reason why people do the things they do and more specifically why do they commit the mistakes they do. Why do they hide them from everyone making him become part of a big mystery himself?
