{ x + 3 y = 7 * ( - 2)
2 x + 4 y = 8

{ - 2 x - 6 y = - 14
2 x + 4 y = 8
_______________
-2 y = - 6 * ( -1)

2 y = 6

y = 6 / 2

y = 3

For x :

2 x + 4 y = 8

2 x + 4 * ( 3) = 8

2 x + 12 = 8

2 x = 8 - 12

2 x = - 4

x = - 4 / 2

x = - 2

Solution: x = -2 and y = 3

hope this helps!
