The following balanced equation shows the formation of ethane (C2H6).

C2H2 + 2H2 mc022-1.jpg C2H6

How many moles of hydrogen are needed to produce 13.78 mol of ethane?

1) 3.445 mol

2) 6.890 mol

3) 27.56 mol

mole ratio of ethane to hydrogen according to equation = 1 : 2
∴ moles of hydrogen = (moles of ethane) * 2
= (13.78 mol) * 2
= 27.56 mol

The number of moles of hydrogen needed to produce 13.78 moles of ethane is

27.56 moles

Step-by-step explanation

write a balanced chemical equation

that is C2H2+2H2→ C2H6

from the equation above 2 moles of H2 reacted to form 1 mole of C2H6(ethane)

therefore the mole ratio between H2 to C2H6 is 2:1 hence the mole of H2 = 2 x 13.78= 27.56 moles
