Julie, the soccer team's captain, wants to borrow her parent's car to drive to the tournament. Her parents tell her that she has to pay for the gas she uses. The car gets 26 miles per gallon (26mpg). Julie wonders how much gas she'll need to purchase to get to the tournament and back.

26 miles per gallon
distance to the tournament=d
total distance=d*2=2d
amount of gas Julie needs to buy=g

what formula will help me to find the amount of gas Julie will have to purchase

g= 2d ÷ 26
If Julie goes 52 miles for her total distance she would need 2 gallons of gas. This is because she can go 26 miles on 1 gallon and 52 ÷ 26 is 2.
