A slide is 10 feet long and 9.3 feet high. How long is its base, from the bottom of the ladder to the end of the slide?

Explanation:

The set up will be a right triangle

Given

Hypotenuse = 10feet (length of the ladder)

Opposite = 9.2 feet (Height of the slide)

Required

Length of the base l

USing the pythagoras theorem

adj^2 = hyp^2 - opp^2

l^2 = 10^2-9.2^2

l^2 = 100 - 84.64

l^2 = 15.36

l = 3.92 feet

Hence the base length is 3.92 feet
