2(ax + 3) = 3(4x + 8)

what is the value of a if there's no solution

we know that

if there's no solution, then the lines must be parallel

so

Apply distributive property both sides

2ax+6=12x+24

the slope of the left side is 2a

the slope of the right side is 12

If the lines are parallel, then their slopes are equal

so

2a=12

solve for a

a=6

Part 2

we have

10(ax-5)=-4(5x+6)

we know that

if there's no solution, then the lines must be parallel

so

Apply distributive property both sides

10ax-50=20x+24

so

10a=20

a=2
