h + p = 25
1.50 h + 0,50 p = 26.50
___________________
p = 25 - h
1.50 h + 0.50 ( 25 - h ) = 26.50
1,50 h + 12.50 - 0.50 h = 26.50
h = 26.50 - 12.50
h = 14
p = 25 - 14
p = 11
Gillian purchased 14 hardcover books and 11 paperback books.
