I am not sure what the options are, but I can give you some tips as to how to identify the characteres in The Metamorphosis. Gregor Samsa is stuck in a depressing job that he has no control over; after he changes, he becomes burdensome and deals with intense, difficult feelings. He is unable to support his family and becomes neglected by his loved ones, leaving him very alienated from his surroundings. Grete is Gregor's sister and his only confidante. After the metamorphosis, she is helpful towards Gregor, but eventually loses interest and abandons him. She is the first to say that Gregor must be gotten rid of. Mr. Samsa is Gregor's father; he used to work very hard, but now he has become very lazy and leeches off of his son's money. However, when tragedy occurs, he goes to work. He is very pessimistic about his son's condition and suspicious about what his son will do in this state. Mrs. Samsa is Gregor's mother. She loves Gregor and has been a good mother, but she is very physically weak and faints when she sees him. She tries to spare Gregor from his father's anger but is very submissive and meek towards her husband. She does not really have much of her own personality. Chief is Gregor's boss. He stands for the failings of capitalism. He is lazy and leeches off of his employees' hard work. He is hypocritical, as he is very critical of his employee's laziness. The chief clerk speaks for the Chief. He comes to see Gregor when he does not come in to work. He announces that Gregor is a thief and a lazy worker, which is a lie. Hope this helps.
