Consider the division of 8y2 – 12y + 4 by 4y.

What is the value of a and b?
a = 2y and b = 3
a = and b = –3y
a = 2y and b = –3
a = and b = 3y

8y^2 -12y +4 / 4y = 2y -3 so from this result that a=2y and b= - 3
8y^2
-------
0 -12y
-12y
---------
0 4

hope i ve understood it right what wan being a and b because you dont wrote there in the text of this exercise

so than the 3rd choice is right

Notice that the dividend
8y^2-12y+4 has tree terms with
a=8y^2,
b=-12y, c
c=4

Now, to divided our dividend
8y^2-12y+4 by the monomial (single term)
4y, the easiest thing to do is divide each term of the dividend by the monomial:

8y^2-12y+4 ÷
4y =
(8y^2-12y+4)/(4y) =(8y^2)/(4y) -(12y)/(4y) +(4)/(4y)= 2y-3+(1)/(y)

After performing the division we get that now
a=2y and
b=-3

We can conclude that the correct answer is a = 2y and b = –3
