An armistice is an agreed truce or temporary end of hostilities.

In other words, an armistice is a formal agreement between two parties battling against eachother during war to stop fighting. An armistice is not always the end of the war, but it can sometimes stop people from fighting until something can be negotiated to create a lasting peace between the two parties.
