First, we need to find out 5% of 5900. So, multiply 5900 by 0.05 (this is 5% in decimal form, and to achieve this I divided 5 by 100), which equals to 295. This is the 5% increase. To achieve the new number of chairs, we add the increase amount to the original amount, so we add 5900 to 295, which equals 6195.
