Given the square we can figure out he bought (x+2) *4 which gives us

4x+8

x= 2 meters

Answer:

Length of the fencing is 14 meters.

Explanation:

Sammie bought just enough fencing to border either a rectangular or a square plot given in the question.

That means perimeter (length of fencing) of both the figures will be same.

Perimeter of square = 4×side

= 4(x + 2) meters

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(length + width)

= 2[(3x + 2) + (x - 1)]

= 2[3x + x + 2 - 1]

= 2[4x + 1]

Since perimeter of both figures are same so

2(4x + 1) = 4(x + 2)

8x + 2 = 4x + 8

8x - 4x = 8 - 2

4x = 6

x =
(6)/(4)

x = 1.5 meters

Therefore, length of the fence = perimeter of the square

= 4(x + 2)

= 4( 1.5 + 2)

= 4×3.5

= 14 meters
