Samuel was riding in the back seat of the station wagon on the way home after a long and tiring day at thebeach. He fell asleep halfway home. He didn't wake up until he still had half as far to go as he had alreadygone while asleep. How much of the entire trip home was Samuel asleep?

For this case let's assume that the total trip present a lenght of 1 mile. From the info given we know that He fell asleep halfway home.

So that means 1-1/2=1/2 miles from home.

Since He didn't wake up until he still had half as far to go as he had already.. That means that he woke up at the middle of the 1/2 remain from home and that point correspond to 3/4 of the trip

Since we want to find how much of the entire trip home was Samuel asleep we just need to find it with the following difference:

(3)/(4)-(1)/(2)=(1)/(4)

So then we can conclude that Samuel was asleep 1/4 of the trip for this case.
