Answer:
Friction is a necessary evil which causes the following disadvantages:
- Friction produces heat. This increases the wear and tear of machines and it may damage them.
- Friction reduces efficiency of machines.
- Sometimes, friction or collision between two rigid objects sparks at any place which may cause fire.
- Soles of shoes wear out due to friction. Similarly, tyres of cycles and vehicles wear out due to friction.
- Knives and razors lose their sharp edges due to friction.
This is because a part of energy supplied to the machines is converted into heat.
