One of the final steps of genocide is to totally dispossess the targeted population from everything they own. Everything is confiscated, and later destroyed and burnt down. Everyone among that population that is thought to have any type of weapon or is perceived as a person that can fight back is disarmed. Once the population is left with nothing, they are forcefully taken into concentration/labor camps or are deported.
By doing this, the government tries to quickly destroy every evidence that that population lived there and often gives for free that land to people of the majority group, in this case, the Turkish, to live and work on it. The Armenians, on the other hand, are taken to remote areas where there would be no contact with anyone, and they were forced to work extremely hard, were not provided with enough food and water, were beaten up and tortured on daily basis, and they were in enclosures from where they were not able to escape. A lot of them died in these places because of the terrible conditions and torture.
