One advantage of unsystematic spelling is that it enables us to distinguish the written forms of homophones from one another. What is a homophone?

A homophone is a pair of words or more that have similar or the same pronunciation to another one but their respective spelling and meaning are entirely different.

Homophones are sometimes used for puns, poetry and creative writing.

Examples of homophones are:

Sea-See

Flea-Flee

Dear-Deer

Days- Daze
